ABOUT THE ARTIST:


American book artist David Drum has been the artist in residence at Burning Books Press since 1984.

Born on a cold winter’s day in Wichita, Kansas, David Drum has worked as a Hollywood prop assistant, a Las Vegas croupier, a funeral director in the Deep South, a fry cook in the Midwest, a San Joaquin Valley ranch foreman, and an encyclopedia salesman and hot tamale vendor in New Orleans, Louisiana.

David Drum’s first book of poetry, Facade: A Bunch of Poems, was published by Michael Lally’s O Press in New York in 1976.  His poems and other writings have appeared in a number of publications, including the poetry anthology, None of the Above: New Poets of the 1970s, published by Crossing  Press.  He is also the author of several trade books.

He holds an Associate of Arts Degree from Brevard College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of California, Riverside, and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Iowa’s Writers’ Workshop in Iowa City, Iowa.

David Drum lives and works in Los Angeles.
